About Marc

My parents named me Marc. My mother read endlessly and so I was given the name Marc Anthony Bartolo, which sounds Italian but is actually Maltese. I was born in Toronto, Canada. As a kid I played street field hockey like crazy, even in -22C, it was really cold, but as a kid having fun I didn't mind. I am still a field hockey fan today. When I was 11 years old, I started shoveling snow and taking other odd jobs to earn money so I could buy my first SLR camera when I was 12 years old. I bought the "Canon AE-1 " while traveling in Japan. I photographed Tokyo and Kyoto, got to know the camera and thus began to discover my love for photography. At school, I took pictures in the school's photo studio and developed both black and white and color photography in the the darkroom. I marveled at how an image could be enhanced by dodging/burning, using different filters, changing the order of chemicals to achieve different effects. I lived in the Maltese Islands, with its magic to photograph, orange and purple sunsets framed by yellow sandstone landscapes, rough stone architecture and faces of interest everywhere. After 5 years, my son Gabriel and I moved to Germany. Today Germany is my home. With my wife Daniela I love to travel, near and far, we take pictures side by side, experience the culture, the people, have fun and laugh together.

When Photographing

our focus is personal. It's about capturing the best of people and their emotions, bringing out the character of the people we photograph, and capturing the moment that is created in its full vividness. In product photography, it is the line and design of the products we photograph, focusing on shape, lighting, shadows and details, bringing to the fore the individual flair of each product.
